With around a thousand motion pictures released per year in India, a figure that is the highest in the world – and should have been treated as an achievement of sorts – gets badly marred upon the quality of our production. To abridge the erroneous gap, Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman, CEO & President, Sony Corporation was present in Delhi to inaugurate the Sony Media Technology Center (SMTC) a collaboration of Sony Corporation and Whistling Woods International (WWI) to establish a centre of excellence. WWI, chaired by Subhash Ghai, is a leader in the media and entertainment education sector and at their Mumbai campus, SMTC shall find its establishment. Through SMTC, Sony will provide its expertise in High Definition and 3D film and broadcast technologies as well as focus on the proliferation and development of these technologies in India’s entertainment industry. For 2012, Sony is targeting a staggering $12 billion revenue from the 3D related businesses.
