1,00,000 Engines by Ford India!

With a unique capability to produce both diesel and petrol engines on the same assembly line, Ford India’s new engine plant at Maraimalainagar Nagar, in 14 months flat, has rolled out its 100,000th engine unit from its production facility. Erected at an investment of $500 million and contained in an area of more than 40,000 square metres, the Chennai plant is designed to cater to the growing demands of the Indian market and its exports opportunities. The advanced manufacturing centre created with global best practices of engine manufacturing has an overall capacity of producing 250,000 engines per year. Currently, the plant produces five Duratec petrol engine variants and one Duratorq diesel engine variant, and has exported over one third of the engines produced to South Africa and Thailand. It also has an eco-friendly ‘cold test process’ in place, which apparently does not use fuel to check engine noise, vibration and harshness. So how does it check everything then? Go, visit the plant, and find out!
